Educational Philosophy

In most educational settings, the focus on academics to the extent that children have a limited experience outside of classroom walls is the primary goal.  Academics have become a sub-culture of children whose grades become “who they are.”  But if the apex of a Christian is to Love God and Love our Neighbor, then we need to make sure that our education is not self-focused, but is instead a practice in humanity.  Aristotle spoke extensively of virtue and understood that a student who simply gained knowledge had not really received an education. Recently, many schools have assumed a fragmented view that reduces a person to an individual in need of knowledge.  At Kaleidoscope Heights, we believe in educating the whole person to love and honor God and all people.

Kaleidoscope Heights’ goal is to teach students of all ability levels through solid Christian pedagogy and materials.  Because we are able to teach students with both conventional and unique needs, our program is very different from the typical school or classroom. We offer progressive teaching, but only expect student output based on the gifting of each individual student.  Our teaching is done in progression, where students move from the concrete to the philosophical as they are ready. Students also progress through “grade-level objectives” as they learn, rather than staying in the typical one-year age-based grade level. Our progressive teaching method stems from Romans 15:1, “We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves,” so that all students are a community that encourage and help each other.
